– Our Story –
One of Knoxville’s longest standing family-owned businesses was started by Merle Clayton in a small downtown Knoxville shop in 1964. Over the years, his sons Scott, then Greg, joined the team as the store expanded.
Merle eventually stepped aside from the day to day operations to start Merle Motors across the street and Scott took over as General Manager. Scott and Greg helped bring Clayton Furniture’s success into the new millenium as the store continued to grow both in size and selection.

From it’s humble beginnings in downtown Knoxville, Clayton Furniture is now one of the largest furniture warehouses in East Tennessee. Generations of families from Knoxville and the surrounding areas have helped Clayton Furniture prosper through economic downturns and the more recent pandemic.
As we celebrate our sixtieth anniversary, we would like to show appreciation for our success and look forward to continuing to help the community find the perfect furnishings for their home.
